​Point 

ΑΚΟΛΟΥΘΕΙ ΚΕΙΜΕΝΟ ΣΤΑ ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΑ

Point Centre for Contemporary Art presents completely something else, a group exhibition that revolves around the notion of constantly-negotiated and undetermined spaces, gestures and shapes. Personal and subjective, the show was conceived to focus on the specificity of Cyprus by aiming at recreating an atmosphere, rather than directly addressing a place, a theme or a topic.

Physically and conceptually dense in some cases, almost rarefied in others, the works on show interact with each other as well as with the audience, like musical instruments tuning in a first rehearsal. Just like ancient statues emerging from the tautological descriptions that abound in archeology books, they seem to aspire at merely "being there", without leaving much room for metaphors and metonymies.

It is often the case that the more tautologically precise a description tries to be, the more abstract, partial and misleading it becomes. It is possible, then, that the only way to talk about Cyprus is to talk about completely something else, as this exhibition tries to do. In other words, it is possible that by making a point of not addressing the subject directly, the exhibition will imperceptibly touch upon it, even if just for a moment.

Jacopo Crivelli Visconti (b. 1973, Italy), based in Sao Paulo, is a curator and writer. As curator of the Fundação Bienal de Sao Paulo (2007-2009), he was responsible for the Brazilian Pavilion in the 52a Biennale di Venezia, among other exhibitions. A selection of upcoming and recent projects as an independent curator includes: Memórias del subdesarrollo, Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, EUA (2017); Héctor Zamora - Dinâmica não linear, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, São Paulo, Brazil (2016); Sean Scully, Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, Brazil (2015); 12 Bienal de Cuenca, Ecuador (2014); Liberdade em movimento, Fundação Iberê Camargo, Porto Alegre, Brazil (2014); Alimentário, Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2014).

Το Point Centre for Contemporary Art παρουσιάζει την ομαδική έκθεση completely something else, η οποία εξερευνά την ιδέα των χώρων, χειρονομιών και σχημάτων που τίθενται σε συνεχή διαπραγμάτευση και αμφισβήτηση. Προσωπική και υποκειμενική, η έκθεση σχεδιάστηκε με γνώμονα την ιδιαιτερότητα της Κύπρου σκοπεύοντας να αναδημιουργήσει μια ατμόσφαιρα, παρά να προτείνει ευθέως έναν τόπο, μια ιδέα ή ένα θέμα. 

Συμπυκνωμένα τόσο χωρικά όσο και εννοιολογικά σε ορισμένες περιπτώσεις, σχεδόν διάσπαρτα  σε άλλες, τα έργα της έκθεσης αλληλοεπιδρούν μεταξύ τους αλλά και με το κοινό, σαν μουσικά όργανα που συντονίζονται σε μια πρώτη πρόβα. Ακριβώς όπως τα αρχαία αγάλματα τα οποία αναδύονται από τις ταυτολογικές περιγραφές που αφθονούν στα βιβλία αρχαιολογίας, φαίνεται να προσβλέπουν απλώς στο να «είναι εκεί», χωρίς να αφήνουν πολλά περιθώρια για μεταφορές και μετωνυμίες.

Παρατηρείται συχνά ότι όσο πιο ταυτολογικά ακριβής επιχειρεί να είναι μια περιγραφή, τόσο πιο αφηρημένη, τμηματική και παραπλανητική καθίσταται. Είναι δυνατόν, λοιπόν, ότι ο μόνος τρόπος για να μιλήσουμε για την Κύπρο είναι να μιλάμε για κάτι εντελώς άλλο (μτφ. completely something else), όπως αυτή η έκθεση προσπαθεί να κάνει. Ενδέχεται λοιπόν, επιλέγοντας να μην πραγματευθεί άμεσα το θέμα, η έκθεση να το θίγει ανεπαίσθητα, έστω και για μια μόνο στιγμή.

Ο Jacopo Crivelli Visconti (1973, Ιταλία) ζει στο Σάο Πάολο και είναι επιμελητής και συγγραφέας. Ως επιμελητής του Fundacao Bienal de Sao Paulo ανέλαβε την επιμέλεια του Περιπτέρου της Βραζιλίας στην 52η Μπιενάλε της Βενετίας, καθώς και άλλες εκθέσεις.
